Franklin County Arts Being the Change/BLM- Who We Are

As members of the greater Franklin County arts community, we believe that creative and expressive arts are essential elements of a healthy society and that they nurture the soul by providing outlets for emotional expression. We envision a society free of discrimination where all people can be empowered through the arts.

We stand now at a critical moment in history, when social divisions, inequalities and systemic biases are being laid bare. There is a gap between where we are and where we wish to be, in keeping with the ideals we hold collectively, as a community and as a nation.

By directly engaging the heart, we believe the arts to be powerful tools that can help bridge the divide between where we stand and where we envision ourselves. We recognize the unique role that creative and expressive arts play in fueling social change and we view this moment as an opportunity to step up. We pledge ourselves to efforts toward redressing inequality, implicit bias and racism.

During these turbulent times, we will actively seek out ways to be the change we wish to see.
