LAVA Center holding workshop for visual, literary art

GREENFIELD — The LAVA Center at 324 Main St. is now collecting submissions for Words on Words, a community art show presenting art that combines words and visual elements, and that responds and reflects upon language and/or writing. The show will be on display in June.

To help artists generate work for this show, the community arts center will host a visual and literary art workshop during its Saturday Salon on April 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to a LAVA Center press release, there will be three stations with paper, markers and other materials, as well as quotes about language and words to stimulate participants’ imaginations.

■Station 1: Classic collage — materials, images and words to cut, arrange and paste.

■Station 2: Photo montage/collage — objects, words and images to arrange, rearrange and photograph.

■Station 3: Wordoodling — inspirational and/or provocative quotes about language, communication and writing. Pick one you like, copy in your own handwriting, and illustrate or frame with your drawing/doodling.

The goal for Saturday’s workshop is to help artists generate ideas for the Words on Words community art show, but submitting work to the show is optional, the release states. To learn more about the show or to submit, visit localaccess.org/words-on-words/.
